What’s moving to the old Kmart building on Brevard Road?
Since Kmart on Brevard Road in Asheville closed in 2019, many have speculated on what will move into this premier property.
“What’s going on in old Kmart on Brevard Road?” Wrote a viewer named Heather. “The interior has been cleaned up, there is a fence around the entrance and a new construction sign has been posted next to the road. Also, are there plans for Ryan’s in the same parking lot? ” she asked.
Permits filed with the city of Asheville show that work began in July 2021 to prepare the old Kmart site to become an interior design store called At Home.
According to permits, interior demolition and renovation is underway, and the roof is being upgraded.
We have contacted At Home to find out when the store will open.
Carey Marin, a corporate communications representative for At Home, said it was still too early to share details of the store’s opening. She provided some general information about the company:
“At Home is a unique interior design concept that offers the largest selection of interior design styles in store at an incredible price. At Home sells up to 50,000 decor items for every room, every style and every budget – from furniture, rugs, wall decorations and housewares to table tops, decks and holiday decorations – in stores around average just over 100,000 square feet. At Home is headquartered in Plano, Texas, and currently operates 235 stores in 40 states. For more information, please visit us online at athome.com.
As for the former Ryan’s steakhouse, there is no active license on file with the city. A Delaware-based LLC has owned the property since 2011.
