Stantec Completes Interior Fitout for UPSIDE Foods’ New Cultured Meat Plant | Stantec

Leading global design firm Stantec has completed interior design and furniture, finishes and fittings (FF&E) services for the new Engineering, Production and Innovation Center (EPIC) of UPSIDE Foods, one of the most advanced cultured meat production facilities in the world. Part of a new 53,000 square foot campus, the project included the conversion of an existing grocery store into a modern research and production facility with a private dining room, showcase kitchen, open office and multi-purpose space with stadium seating for presentations and collaborations.

UPSIDE Foods is a leading company in the cultured meat, poultry and seafood industry. The EPIC facility is designed to produce all species of meat, poultry and seafood directly from animal cells, instead of relying on raising and slaughtering animals. This new space represents a major step forward in UPSIDE’s mission to bring delicious real meat to the world in a more humane and sustainable way.

Stantec provided comprehensive interior design services that bring the space to life through the use of architectural materials and branding. Using natural materials, bold metallic accents and signature lighting, the new facility is designed to create an exciting and dynamic workplace that promotes collaboration and employee retention. The design team also helped develop creative branding and feature walls, including an illuminated four-foot logo that can be seen from the entrance to the Emeryville Public Market – a 270-square-foot mixed-use development 000 square feet including retail, offices and a food hall.

“UPSIDE Food’s goal of creating a more sustainable and compassionate source of meat products requires professionals from diverse backgrounds and industries to work closely together. The result is a space that fosters collaboration and creativity at all levels, supporting long-term success,” said Heidi Dunn, Senior Partner and Project Manager at Stantec. “We are proud to have designed a space that will meet UPSIDE’s needs now and for years to come.”

Stantec is currently providing architectural and interior design services for another UPSIDE Foods project on the same site. The team is converting an existing brick warehouse into a modern office with research and development space, with interior design, branding and furniture concepts similar to those of the EPIC facility.

Stantec has a long history of creating collaborative research and laboratory spaces. Recently, the firm provided architectural and interior design services for The BEAT, a renovation of the former Boston Globe headquarters into a 695,000 square foot multi-story center for creative offices, laboratories and retail outlets.
