Position of Professor/Associate Professor of Interior Architecture at the UNIVERSITY OF NORTHUMBRIA
The Department of Architecture and the Built Environment is seeking to appoint an outstanding candidate to join its Architecture subject group as an Associate Professor/Professor of Interior Architecture to enhance and lead research, the funding of research, teaching and academic activities within the subject group.
The post holder will contribute and provide strategic leadership on research activities in alignment with Northumbria University REF 2021 Assessment Unit 13 submission, to build on its excellence in research through design, particularly in the areas of:
- Interior architecture
- Creative heritage
- Adaptive reuse
Applicants must have returned to previous Research Excellence Frameworks (or equivalent in other countries) with outcomes directly related to Interior Architecture, Interiors and Adaptive Reuse as Research by design, constructed artifact and/or publication. Successful candidates will provide strategic leadership and research mentorship, support, and the development of academic research careers within the subject group.
Our RIBA NE award-winning Sutherland Studios provide our staff and over 400 architecture and interior design students with exceptional facilities and affirm the place of design studios at the center of our educational ideology. Therefore, we are seeking the interest of outstanding candidates who have experience leading design education in the studio and who will enhance the subject group and department through their leadership in design education, interior design development and delivery.
You should hold a first degree, with expertise in interior architecture, design or adaptive reuse and be qualified at PhD level, or have equivalent work experience within design or consultancy practice . A proven ability to deliver high-quality, research-oriented teaching and a publication profile to match the Associate Professor/Professor position are essential.
